‘The best thing we did was swim in the rain. I wasn’t even sure we were allowed to, but it was brilliant! I mean we were wet anyway, so I guess it didn’t matter too much about the weather.’
Beaver Scouts are the youngest section of the Witchford Scouting family and range between 6 to 8 years old.
Our Beaver section meets every week during Rackham school term times on a Monday evening between 5:45pm and 6:45pm.
Their activities are based around making things, outdoor activities, singing, playing games, going out on visits, investigating nature, listening to stories, learning how to be safe and most importantly, making new friends.
A typical session will involve playing games, making something, learning some new facts (they particularly like bug hunting) and generally having fun. We also go on occasional visits to places such as Wicken Fen and Ely Cathedral.
As of 2012, Beavers are allowed to go on camp in a tent! We offer this opportunity to all Beavers in the Colony every year on our annual Group camp as what is probably their first experience away from mum and dad for a night, with the excitement of playing games, staying up late, and crashing out in a tent at the end of a long day.
